Certificate for employment during the War, this records his occupation on elistment as a Railway Clerk, he was afirst class signaller and XVII Corps linesman in France, his commanding Officer writes
A very good signaller has been awarded the DCM for very gallantly repairing lines under very heavy fire during an enemy attack.
Certificate of transfer to the reserve.
Congratulations telegram dated 11th January 1919 from his commanding Officer and all Officers on his award of the DCM
James Pybus was born in Doncaster 16th December 1897 and the 1911 census records show he is a 13 year old Messenger boy at the Railway Office residing with his father Edward a Coppersmith at the railway depot, mother Laura two sisters and 2 brothers at 3 Upper Oxford Street Doncaster.
There is a James Pybus born in 1897 serving with 15th Battalion Durham Light Infantry Home Guard

HMS Caesar a Battleship served with the Mediterranean Fleet after a brief stint in the Channel Fleet. In 1905, she resumed service with a now re-organised Channel Fleet and was also part of the Atlantic Fleet for a time. In the service of the Home Fleet from 1907, she was placed in reserve in 1912. Following the outbreak of World War I, Caesar returned to the Channel Fleet before being transferred to the North America and West Indies Station in 1915 after a brief spell as a guard ship at Gibraltar. From 1918 to 1919 she served as a depot ship, firstly in the Mediterranean and Aegean Seas and then the Black Sea, in support of naval operations against the Bolsheviks. In this latter role, she was the last of the pre-dreadnought battleships to see service outside the United Kingdom
