With copy of newspaper cutting which reads
Captain Hugh Reid Haddow, 1/ 5th Battalion The Royal Scots Fusiliers Died in Hospital at Alexandria from enteric fever on the 12th of July 1915.
Captain Haddow was the the only son of the late Mr H.R Haddow, Bowbridge, Denny and was married, his residence being at Headswood The Golf Course Girvan. He was a teacher by profession, and went to Girvan in 1908 as one of the senior assistants in the local elementry school. Two years later he was appointed art Master in Girvan High School, a position which he continued to fill up to the time of mobilisation last August several years ago he entered the local company of the 5th Royal Scots FusiliersT.F. as Lieutenant and on the retirement of Captai Farish he was gazetted Captain and succeeded to the charge of the local section.

On the outbreak of war and the mobilisation of the Territorials he proceeded with his battalion to Cambusbarron, Stirling and was attached to B Company during the regiments period of training there and subsequently also on active service at the Dardanelles. Captain Haddow succeeded in increasing the strength of the Girvan section during his command of it. He was also in command of the Girvan High School Cadets
